There is no doubt that technological studies have a huge impact in modern life, more than any other science, as their achievements affect our daily lives directly and catalytically, in all their aspects. For this reason, governments have added corresponding computer science courses in secondary education as an effort to cultivate in students the idea of the need for innovation. However, it is up to the individual initiative of each student to immerse themselves in the essence of technology, with technological studies at the level of higher education.
We live in a digital era where the concepts of coding and other technological practices, tools and achievements are so important, that their absence from the knowledge of a student or professional, can in the future lead to a form of exclusion from the employment market.
When the correct foundations laid by technological studies are put into practice, we can develop a form of basic knowledge that will allow us to keep up with technological developments.
Having qualifications coming from the appropriate studies, in this case the technological ones, those will help us understand and follow the rapid developments in the technological field, so that we are always at the forefront of the modern employment market.
It is no coincidence that many representatives of the technology industry claim that anyone who does not own basic coding skills will be illiterate in the near future.
The great value that technological studies provide is, first and foremost, the opportunity they give to the student to deeply assimilate the developments of the digital world and to understand the way they need to restructure their way of thinking in order to become successful in their field.
Mehran Sahami, a renowned professor of Computer Science at Stanford University, has said that computers are extremely good at following commands. So good to the point that they can literally execute every instruction we give them. All they need to do is ask us to speak their language. Computer science students learn just that. How to communicate their desires and thoughts to computers and process them. They create little “gods” who can conceive, design and build applications and programs for fields from information technology, telecommunications and commerce to medicine, robotics or nanotechnology.
Another key reason that technological studies have a great value and impact is definitely the employment opportunities, the salary scale and other benefits enjoyed by industry professionals. It is a fact that in the digital era, there can never be enough scientists in this particular field, as the fields of application are constantly increasing.
Therefore, people who meet the criteria to work in such positions will always be needed. Regarding the salary ranking of graduates, it should be mentioned that in the field of computer science in the United Kingdom, an average salary for junior positions is set at around £25,000 per year, while in senior positions, professionals in the field are paid from £45,000 – £70,000 per year (according to a survey conducted by Prospects).
And let us not forget that, due to the practical nature of the technological studies’ knowledge, such a student can during their studies work and apply in practice what they are taught, building a competent resume from an early age. So that upon graduation and even before continuing their studies in a postgraduate program, they are ready for the realistic demands of the labor market.
